Stony Brook Moves Up After Upset Victory

Stony Brook recorded their first win over a ranked opponent since 2021, taking down then-No. 15 William & Mary, 35-13. The Seawolves’ defense was the difference in the game, limiting the Tribe to just 120 yards rushing and pulling down four interceptions. Stony Brook jumps up to No. 20 in this week’s AFCA FCS Coaches Poll, presented by Hudl, while William & Mary dropped to No. 24.
North Dakota State looked like the No. 1 team on Saturday, dominating Murray State, 59-6. Montana State was idle and stays No. 2, while No. 3 South Dakota State survived a low scoring affair with rival South Dakota, winning 20-17 in overtime. The Coyotes only dropped one spot after the loss, from No. 4 to No. 5. UC Davis is now in the fourth spot.
North Dakota was the only other casualty in the top 25 this week. Youngstown State kicked a field goal with 12 seconds to go in regulation, pushing the game into overtime at 34 apiece. North Dakota answered the Penguins’ touchdown in overtime, but their two-point conversion pass fell incomplete and Youngstown won the upset, 41-40. The loss dropped the Fighting Hawks eight spots to No. 15.
