Skills & Drills – Cody Baethke – DB Buddy Drill
June 7, 2023
In this video from our skills & drills field, we have Cody Baethke defensive coordinator for Coe College.
Two players start next to each other and back-peddle; as they are back-peddling, the QB turns, the direction he turns becomes the offensive player, and the other player becomes the DB. The offensive player breaks at a 90-degree angle once the QB turns. The DB should “punch through hands” as you go for the ball” and “grab the catch arm.” The goal in grabbing the catch arm is to take away the arm that would be most readily used to make a one-handed catch; as you go to the ground, it brings the ball closer to the DB and, ideally, will result in the ball being stripped from the receiver.
