West Virginia Defensive Line coach Andrew Jackson takes us through his defensive line get-off drill at the 2023 AFCA Convention.
In this drill Coach Jackson sets up three cones, approximately 5 yards of space, and 3 players. Cones are set in a triangle formation 2-3 yards apart. Player 1 acts as OL, starts at the first cone, and back-peddles, player 2 moves on player 1’s twitch and seeks to be hip to hip by cone 2 to simulate a pass rush. Player 2 should then sit on his inside foot, move around player 1 and come around cone 2 tightly. Inside hand to OL opposite hip as you round the corner.
“If I get hip-to-hip, I’m even, I’m leaving.”
