Shepherd Holding Steady at No. 3
Shepherd (W.Va.) claimed the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division title by beating East Stroudsburg (Pa.), 37-14. In the win, which moved the Rams to 10-0 on the season, senior quarterback Tyson Bagent threw for five touchdowns, giving him 151 for his career and set the new Division II career mark which was held by current East Stroudsburg head coach Jimmy Terwilliger. Terwilliger threw for 148 touchdowns between 2003-06. Shepherd stays at No. 3 in this week’s AFCA Division II Coaches’ Top 25 Poll as they prepare to face No. 19 Indiana (Pa.) in the PSAC title game.
The stunner of the weekend was West Georgia’s upset of unbeaten Delta State (Miss.) in Cleveland, Mississippi. Trailing 42-24 with 10:45 left to go in the fourth quarter, the Wolves scored 28 unanswered points to clinch the victory, 52-42. The loss dropped Delta State six places to No. 12 while West Georgia rose three spots to No. 16. The Statesmen still control their own destiny for the Gulf South Conference title if they beat West Alabama on Saturday. West Georgia, who sits second in the conference, ends their regular season on the road against North Greenville (S.C.).
