Sacramento State Dominates FBS Opponent
September 26, 2022
Sacramento State set a school record for points against an FBS opponent when the Hornets dominated Colorado State, 41-10. It was Sacramento State’s first win against an FBS opponent since 2012 and moved their record to 3-0, its best start to a season since 1992. The Hornets totaled nearly 400 yards of total offense and kept the Rams scoreless in the second half. The victory moved Sacramento State to No. 5 is this week’s AFCA FCS Coaches’ Top 25 Poll. Next on the calendar is a date at UC Davis.
The Top 4 remained unchanged with North Dakota State still sitting No. 1, followed by Montana and South Dakota State. Montana State moved from a tie at No. 4 last week to sole possession after they took down then-No. 15 Eastern Washington, 38-35.
There is only one Top 25 matchup this coming weekend and it involves one of the two new teams in the poll this week. Elon enters at No. 23 with a 3-1 record after beating then-No. 14 William & Mary, 35-31. The Phoenix will host No. 22 Richmond in a key Colonial Athletic Association matchup. The second newcomer is Southeastern Louisiana. The Lions come in at No. 24 thanks to its 41-35 upset win over then-No. 7 UIW.
