North Central Starts the 2022 AFCA Poll at No. 1

The 2022 season has been up and running for three weeks and the coaches have picked North Central (Ill.) as the No. 1 team to start the AFCA Division III Coaches’ Top 25 Poll. The Cardinals are 2-0 after a dominating, 59-7, victory over Carthage (Wis.). North Central’s next game is another College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin member, Elmhurst (Ill.).
St. John’s (Minn.) is the No. 2 team. The Johnnies are off to a hot start this season, beating two ranked opponents in No. 5 Wisconsin-Whitewater and No. 17 Wisconsin-River Falls, in their first two games. Their next game will be a tough one as they open conference play against Bethel (Minn.). Mount Union (Ohio) sits in the third spot. The Raiders are 2-0 and will face Muskingum (Ohio) on Saturday. In the No. 4 spot is defending national champion Mary Hardin-Baylor (Tex.). The Crusaders are 2-1 and travel to No. 6 Hardin-Simmons (Tex.) for a big Top 10 showdown in the American Southwest Conference. Wisconsin-Whitewater rounds out the Top 5. The Warhawks have a bye week before they hit the road to face No. 10 Wisconsin-La Crosse.
