No. 2 Angelo State Takes Top 15 Battle

Angelo State (Tex.) used a stingy defense and a balanced offensive attack to dominate previously unbeaten Texas A&M-Kingsville, 34-7. In shutting down the Javelinas, the Ram defense recorded four sacks, recovered a fumble and had one interception while the offense recorded 417 total yards, including 234 on the ground. Angelo State stays at No. 2 while the Javelinas fall to No. 20 in this week’s AFCA Division II Coaches’ Top 25 Poll.
There wasn’t much change this week as the Top 10 remained the same. Grand Valley State (Mich.) dominated Northern Michigan, 56-3, and continues at No. 1. Sioux Falls (S.D.) lost to unranked Winona State (Minn.), 20-17, and fell to No. 19 while Newberry (S.C.) beat Lenoir-Rhyne (N.C.), 38-24, causing the Wolves to rise to No. 12 while the Bears fall 10 spots to No. 22.
Davenport (Mich.), who entered the AFCA Top 25 for the first time last week, gets their first real test as a ranked team when they travel to No. 23 Saginaw Valley State (Mich.). The Panthers are 7-0, and 3-0 in conference play, as they prepare for the toughest stretch of their season. After Saginaw Valley State, Davenport will face No. 7 Ferris State (Mich.) and No. 1 Grand Valley State (Mich.) in consecutive weeks.
