No. 18 Susquehanna Upsets No. 6 Johns Hopkins

In a battle for the top spot in the Centennial Conference, it was the home team that came out on top as Susquehanna (Pa.) held on for a 26-24 victory over Johns Hopkins (Md.). The win moved the Riverhawks up to No. 15 while Johns Hopkins fell 12 spots to No. 18 in this week’s AFCA Division III Coaches’ Top 25 Poll. With Susquehanna up 26-18 late in the fourth quarter, the Blue Jays scored a touchdown with 49 seconds left but their ensuing two-point conversion failed and the Riverhawks held on for the win.
Other than Johns Hopkins falling and No. 13 Wisconsin-Whitewater’s victory over then-No. 22 Wisconsin-River Falls, which dropped the Falcons to No. 25, there wasn’t much movement in the poll. No. 1 North Central (Ill.) and No. 2 Mount Union (Ohio) recorded identical 59-0 victories on Saturday while No. 3 Mary Hardin-Baylor (Tex.) had the weekend off.
There are two Top 25 matchups this coming weekend with the first one being for the top spot in the Ohio Athletic Conference as No. 2 Mount Union plays host to No. 24 John Carroll (Ohio). The last time John Carroll beat Mount Union was November 12, 2016. In the other matchup, No. 25 Wisconsin-River Falls will look to rebound as they travel to No. 7 Wisconsin-La Crosse.
