
NCAA Seeking Division II Director Of Football Officials

The NCAA seeks a qualified independent contractor to further the NCAA’s ongoing commitment to improving the overall quality and consistency of officiating throughout collegiate football. The Division II Director of Football Officials is responsible for managing and coordinating officials for the Division II Football Championship. Additionally, the Division II Director of Football Officials assists the NCAA Division II Football Committee in the identification, training, selection and evaluation of officials for the Division II Football Championship. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following:
- Work with NCAA staff and national coordinator of officials on the football officiating program (recruitment, training, education, retention).
- Throughout the season, work regularly with Division II conference coordinators of football officials to ensure the most consistent and effective teaching and communication methods are used in developing a qualified pool of officials.
- Develop annual and long-term officiating improvement plans.
- Attend NCAA officials’ regional clinics, conference coordinators of officials’ meetings and other training meetings (as requested).
- Work with NCAA staff and national coordinator of football officials to annually update officiating policies and procedures. Attend the College Football Officiating (CFO) winter and summer coordinator meetings and all CFO coordinator virtual meetings.
- Provide written annual report to the Division II Football Committee, NCAA staff and national coordinator of football officials.
- Attendance at Division II Football Committee annual meeting and other Division II Football Committee meetings (if requested).
- Host monthly conference coordinator of officials calls and/or Microsoft Teams meetings during the football season.
- Conduct calls and/or Microsoft Teams meetings with assigned referees and also video evaluators selected to evaluate officials during the NCAA Division II Football Championship.
- Listen, communicate and build rapport with Division II constituents (coordinators of football officials, coaches, and administrators).
- Be a resource for conference coordinators of officials and commisioners.
- Use streaming video to evaluate officials during the regular season and set a baseline rating for each conference during the regular season.
- Work with the Division II Football Committee and NCAA staff to evaluate, assign, and communicate with the various assigned conference football officiating crews during the championship.
- Communicate playoff evaluations to the conference coordinators and their officiating crews.
- Attend the Division II Football Championship game and work as a representative of officiating.
- Responsible for miscellaneous projects and other duties as assigned by the NCAA Division II Football Committee and/or NCAA staff.
Those interested in providing services should demonstrate his/her proficiency in the following areas:
- Extensive knowledge of NCAA Football Rules and current officiating mechanics and techniques.
- Proficiency in managing multi-media technology related to PowerPoint, videos and websites.
- Proficiency in computer skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Strong administrative and organizational skills.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Familiarity with and ability to relate to NCAA football coaches and officials.
- Experience as a college or professional football official, an NCAA football coach and/or extensive knowledge of college football.
- This person cannot be an active NCAA coach, football official, conference assignor and or/coordinator, or officer in any national amateur football officials’ association.
- This person shall not be involved in assigning officials for any regular season NCAA Division II football game.
Reports to: NCAA national office staff with responsibility to the NCAA Division II Football Committee and the NCAA Football Rules Committee (if requested).
