[NAIA Poll] Two Upsets Cause Shakeup In NAIA Top 25

Marian (Ind.) used a stingy defense and a dominate run game to upset then-No. 3 Saint Francis (Ind.), 28-10. The win vaulted Marian to No. 3 in this week’s AFCA NAIA Coaches’ Top 25 Poll. That wasn’t the only Top 5 upset as Grand View (Iowa) took down then-No. 2 Benedictine (Kan.), 27-6, allowing the Vikings to jump to No. 5.

Morningside (Iowa) still holds the top spot after moving its record to 4-0 with a 69-13 victory over Hastings (Neb.). Kansas Wesleyan is the new No. 2 team this week. The Coyotes are 5-0 and will face Saint Mary (Kan.) this coming Saturday. Concordia (Mich.) rounds out the new Top 5, coming in at No. 4. The Cardinals beat then-No. 19 Siena Heights (Mich.), 10-7, dropping the Saints to No. 21.

There are three Top 25 matchups this coming week and Concordia (Mich.) is back at it again, this time facing No. 8t Saint Francis (Ind.). The Cardinals are in the midst of a brutal four-game stretch where they will face four straight Top 25 teams. The other matchups see No. 11 Cumberlands (Ky.) hosting No. 23 Bethel (Tenn.) and No. 15 Montana-Western traveling to No. 22 Montana Tech.

Only one team fell out of this week’s rankings, Bethel (Kan.), making room for another team from Kansas, MidAmerica Nazarene. The Pioneers are 5-1 after beating Culver-Stockton (Mo.), 23-9, and get a week off before they return to action on October 19 at No. 24 Baker (Kan.).
