[NAIA Poll] Siena Heights Takes Down Top 10 Opponent

Siena Heights (Mich.) took a 17-14 lead over then-No. 6 Saint Francis (Ind.) into halftime, then the Saints’ No. 1-ranked scoring defense pitched a shutout in the second half to preserve a 24-14 victory. The win was the first over a Top 10 opponent in Siena Heights history and moved the Saints to No. 14 in the AFCA NAIA Coaches’ Top 25 Poll. The loss dropped Saint Francis down 10 spots to No. 16.

Morningside (Iowa) won comfortably, as did most of the Top 5, to preserve their No. 1 ranking. The only close game was a 48-47 victory for Kansas Wesleyan, who flip flopped spots with Marian (Ind.) to move to No. 3, while the Knights blanked Lawrence Tech, 46-0, moving them to No. 2.

There is only one Top 25 matchup this coming weekend as No. 21 Dickinson State (N.D.) travels to No. 25 Waldorf (Iowa). The Blue Hawks are looking to rebound after their loss to Valley City State (N.D.), 23-22, this past Saturday, which dropped Dickinson State eight places in this week’s poll. Both teams are 6-2 and in a three-way tie at the top of the North Star Athletic Association.
