October 24, 2022
Mary Hardin-Baylor (Tex.) rose to No. 3 in this week’s AFCA Division III Coaches’ Top 25 Poll thanks to Wisconsin-Platteville’s upset win over then-No. 3 Wisconsin-Whitewater, 17-13. The Crusaders, led by record setting senior quarterback Kyle King, rolled through Sul Ross State (Tex.), 45-14, to move to 7-1 on the season. King threw four touchdown passes in the victory and set the program record for touchdown passes in a career with 68.
North Central (Ill.) and Mount Union (Ohio) still sit in the top two spots, but now Linfield (Ore.) moves to No. 4 and Trinity (Tex.) moves to No. 5. Wisconsin-Whitewater fell 11 places to No. 14 but will have a chance to rebound as they host No. 22 Wisconsin-River Falls.
Washington (Mo.) fell out of the poll after its 31-0 loss to No. 1 North Central, which allows John Carroll (Ohio) to enter the Top 25 for the first time this season. The Blue Streaks are 6-1 after beating Capital (Ohio), 42-10, and will travel to Muskingum (Ohio) this coming Saturday. They have a date with No. 2 Mount Union on November 5.
