February 16, 2023
This week on Inside the Headset, we are featuring our Division 1 – FCS Coach of the Year regional winners in a panel discussion. Coach Bob Chesney, College of the Holy Cross, and John Stiegelmeier, South Dakota State University reflect on their season, discuss key mentors in their life, and review some takeaways from the AFCA convention.
Bob Chesney recently completed his 5th season at the College of the Holy Cross. He has posted a winning conference record in each of his 12 seasons as a collegiate head coach. The Crusaders became the first team in conference history to clinch four straight outright Patriot League titles and have completed three consecutive undefeated league slates.
John Stiegelmeier is the winningest football coach in South Dakota State history, and has built the program into a yearly contender within the Missouri Valley Football Conference and the Football Championship Subdivision. This past season Coach Stiegelmeier completed a 14-1 season capped off by a FCS National Championship win. The victory was career No. 199 for Jackrabbit head coach John Stiegelmeier (199-112 record in 26 seasons). Stiegelmeier’s teams posted winning records in 22 of his 26 seasons.
