Conner McQueen is currently the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at the University of the Incarnate Word, a role he has held for the past two seasons. Under his guidance, the Cardinals achieved an 11-3 record in 2024 and advanced to the quarterfinals of the FCS playoffs. Before joining UIW, McQueen was a graduate assistant on Lincoln Riley’s staff at USC, coaching quarterbacks. His coaching experience also includes stints at Oklahoma, UCLA, and Texas A&M. McQueen played college football at Texas A&M as a quarterback and holder for the Aggies. Coach McQueen was a member of the 2025 AFCA 35 Under 35 Class. McQueen emphasizes a methodical approach to their installation, beginning with the basics in true Air Raid fashion. The day-one install starts with the foundational elements, excluding tempo and focusing on running the plays from a 2×2 formation. When they move to the second install, tempo is introduced, building on the same base plan. The third install then adds motions, which is a key focus in the film highlighted in this video. Starting with fundamentals has allowed McQueen’s offense to steadily build and expand as they head into the season.  

He also mentions breaking down base 3×1 to 2×2 and 2×2 to 3×1, analyzing what concepts can be run out of each. By drawing it up, he looks for ways to create and adapt plays from the base install, whether in 2×2 or 3×1. Coach McQueen stresses the importance of identifying plays and schemes that fit the strengths of your players—those that they’ve consistently repped and can be effectively coached within your system.
