[FCS Poll] Villanova Outlast Towson To Jump Into The Top 25

In what can only be described as a rollercoaster game featuring six ties and six lead changes in regulation, then-No. 18 Villanova outlasted then-No. 5 Towson and came away with a 52-45 overtime victory. A game-tying field goal with 10 seconds left in regulation gave Villanova the momentum going into overtime, scoring what would become the game-winning touchdown in their first possession. The Wildcats jumped five spots to No. 13 in this week’s AFCA FCS Coaches’ Top 25 Poll.

North Dakota State received all 26 first-place votes and remained the No. 1 team in the nation following their win against then-No. 4 UC Davis, 27-16. James Madison and South Dakota State remained No. 2 and No. 3, respectively, with Kennesaw State making its first appearance in the Top 5 this season at No. 4 and UC Davis dropping one spot to No. 5.

This weekend will feature five Top 25 matchups. The Colonial Athletic Association will see two of those matchups when No. 2 James Madison hosts No. 24 Elon, while No. 13 Villanova looks to stay undefeated taking on No. 16 Maine. No. 6 Weber State will host No. 7 Northern Iowa and No. 17 Montana will travel to No. 5 UC Davis. Last but not least, No. 21 Eastern Washington looks to right the ship as they host No. 25 North Dakota.
