Emporia State Ends Losing Streak To Move Up In Top 25

The Emporia State (Kan.) defense picked off six passes to help the Hornets beat then-No. 5 Northwest Missouri State, 33-13. The win snapped a 29-game losing streak to the Bearcats which dated back to 1994. As a result, Emporia State moves up six spots to No. 12 in this week’s AFCA Division II Coaches’ Top 25 Poll. The loss dropped Northwest Missouri State to No. 15.
Ferris State (Mich.) still sits No. 1 after beating then-No. 21 Ashland (Ohio), 38-28. The Bulldogs received 27 first-place votes and will visit FCS-member Montana next Saturday. Colorado School of Mines beat then-No. 4 Angelo State (Tex.), 31-21, and remains in the No. 2 spot with two first-place votes. Pittsburg State (Kan.) is still No. 3 followed now by No. 4 West Florida and No. 5 Ouachita Baptist (Ark.).
No. 7 Grand Valley State (Mich.) will face their third straight ranked opponent to start the season as the Lakers host No. 19 Assumption (Mass.). The only other Top 25 matchup has No. 22 Colorado State-Pueblo hosting newly ranked and No. 25 Western Colorado.
