[D2 Poll] Valdosta State Upset West Georgia to Move Up in Final Regular Season Coaches Poll
November 12, 2018
Valdosta State (Ga.) rushed for 395 yards and dominated then-No. 3 West Georgia, 47-31, to clinch their first Gulf South Conference title since 2010. The Blazers, who moved up two places to No. 3, also secured its first undefeated regular season since 2002 and earned a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Division II playoffs. West Georgia dropped six spots to No. 9 after the loss and will host Wingate (N.C.) in the first round of the playoffs.

Minnesota State still claims the top spot in the final regular season AFCA Division II Coaches’ Top 25 Poll. The Mavericks also received a No. 1 seed in the playoffs and will await their next opponent. Joining Minnesota State and Valdosta State in the Top 5 are No. 2 Ferris State (Mich.), No. 4 Ouachita Baptist (Ark.) and No. 5 Minnesota-Duluth. Ouachita Baptist and No. 11 Notre Dame (Ohio) are the other two No. 1 seeds in the playoffs.

There are three new teams who entered the final regular season poll. Ohio Dominican jumps back in at No. 22 after a three-week layoff, as does No. 24 Azusa Pacific (Calif.), who has had a five-week layoff. Bowie State (Md.) makes its first appearance in the poll this year, coming in at No. 25. The Bulldogs will host West Alabama in the first round of the playoffs
