[D2 Poll] Lenoir-Rhyne Earns Share Of Conference Title With Win Over Wingate

No. 7 Lenoir-Rhyne (N.C.) used two long touchdown catches from Jaquay Mitchell to beat conference rival, and then-No. 12 Wingate (N.C.), 20-13. Mitchell’s second score came early in the fourth quarter as he raced 90 yards for a touchdown which became the longest passing touchdown in Lenoir-Rhyne history. The Bears stayed at No. 7 in this week’s AFCA Division II Coaches’ Top 25 poll while Wingate fell six spots to No. 18. Lenoir-Rhyne can win the South Atlantic Conference title outright with a win over Catawba (N.C.) in two weeks.

Valdosta State (Ga.) was idle, but remained No. 1 with 29 first-place votes. The Blazers return to action on November 9 with one of three Top 25 matchups as they host No. 20 West Florida. The Top 5 teams are still the same from last week, but Tarleton State (Texas), who has been receiving one first-place vote for several weeks, jumped Minnesota State for the No. 3 spot.

The other two Top 25 matchups see No. 2 Ferris State (Mich.) hosting No. 14 Grand Valley State (Mich.) while No. 17 Indianapolis (Ind.) looks to rebound from their first loss of the season as they host No. 23 Truman State (Mo.).
