Alma Enters AFCA Top 25 for First Time Since 2005

The last time Alma (Mich.) was ranked in the AFCA Division III Coaches’ Top 25 Poll was September 20, 2005, at No. 20. Thanks to their best start in program history, the Scots are back in the AFCA poll at No. 24. Alma beat Adrian (Mich.), 30-10, and moved its record to 9-0 setting up a battle of unbeatens for the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association title. The Scots will host No. 19 Albion (Mich.), who also comes in with an identical 9-0 record.
With one week left in the regular season, there wasn’t much movement in the Top 25. The top 23 teams remained the same with North Central (Ill.) still holding strong at No. 1 with 43 first-place votes. No. 2 Mount Union (Ohio) beat No. 24 John Carroll (Ohio), 34-28, knocking the Blue Streaks out of the poll. The same happened to No. 25 Wisconsin-River Falls, who lost to No. 7 Wisconsin-La Crosse, 24-17, and fell out of the Top 25.
