[FCS POLL] Sam Houston Claims the No. 1 Spot in Final AFCA FCS Spring Top 25 Poll

Sam Houston survived a weather delay and a furious comeback by South Dakota State to win the 2021 Spring FCS national championship, 23-21. The win gave the Bearkats their first national title and secured the No. 1 spot in the final AFCA FCS Coaches’ Spring Top 25 Poll. South Dakota State stays at No. 2 and finishes the spring with an 8-2 record.

James Madison ends the season at No. 3 after being ranked No. 1 for the entire spring regular season. The Dukes lost to Sam Houston, 38-35, in the semifinals. Delaware moves up a place to No. 4 thanks to their semifinal run while North Dakota State jumps two spots to round out the Top 5. The Bison lost to Sam Houston, 24-20, in the quarterfinals.
Southern Illinois made the biggest jump in the poll, rising five places to No. 9 after their appearance in the quarterfinals. The biggest loser was Weber State, who dropped five spots to No. 8, but still managed to be ranked higher than Southern Illinois, the team that beat them in the first round of the playoffs. Sacred Heart and Holy Cross both jumped into the final poll at No. 22 and No. 25, respectively, thanks to their appearances in the FCS playoffs.
