ACU’s Late Touchdown Wins Them The UAC Title
November 18, 2024
With Tarleton State leading 31-28 with 1:48 left to go in the game, ACU quarterback Maverick McIvor led the Wildcats on a 75-yard drive that culminated in a 1-yard touchdown pass to Sam Hicks for the 35-31 lead. Tarleton State drove the length of the field and tried a Hail Mary pass with the clock at zeros, but it was knocked down by the ACU defense. With the win, ACU claims the United Athletic Conference title and an automatic berth into the FCS playoffs, both Division I firsts for the Wildcats. ACU and Tarleton flip flop in the AFCA FCS Coaches Poll, presented by Hudl. The Wildcats rise to No. 12 while the Texans drop to No. 16.
No. 1 North Dakota State clinched at least a share of the Missouri Valley Football Conference title with a dominating 59-21 win over then-No. 14 Missouri State. The Bison can win the title outright with a win at No. 4 South Dakota on Saturday. No. 2 Montana State survived a furious 20-point comeback by then-No. 4 UC Davis with seven minutes left to go in the game, winning 30-28 and claiming at least a share of the Big Sky Conference crown. A win against in-state rival and No. 10 Montana will clinch the title outright.
Tennessee State enters the AFCA FCS Coaches Poll for the first time this season at No. 25. The Tigers are 8-3, their most wins since 2012, and are in a three-way tie for second place in the Big South-OVC.
