CENTRAL COLLEGE HEAD COACH JEFF MCMARTIN NAMED 2024 AFCA PRESIDENT

Central College head coach Jeff McMartin will lead the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) in 2024 as president of the organization. McMartin, who moves up from first vice-president, succeeds outgoing president Todd Knight of Ouachita Baptist University. McMartin was elected president by members attending the Association’s 2024 Convention today.
In addition to McMartin, the 2024 AFCA officers include first vice-president Bobby Hauck of the University of Montana; second vice-president Neal Brown of West Virginia University and third vice-president Jim Catanzaro of Lake Forest College.
Also serving on the Board in 2024: Steve Ryan, Morningside University; James Franklin, Penn State University; Dave Clawson, Wake Forest University; Brian Bohannon, Kennesaw State University; Mike MacIntyre, Florida International University; Maurice Linguist, University at Buffalo; Kane Wommack, University of South Alabama; Mike Babcock, McKendree University; Randy Bates, University of Pittsburgh, ex officio member and chairman of the Assistant Coaches Committee; Van Malone, Kansas State University, ex officio member and chairman of the Minority Advancement Committee; Michael Christensen, Carson (Calif.) High School, ex officio member and chairman of the High School Committee; and Scott Strohmeier, Iowa Western Community College, ex officio member and Junior College representative. Clark Lea from Vanderbilt University, Mike Bloomgren from Rice University, Jay Norvell from Colorado State University, Jason Simpson from the University of Tennessee at Martin, and Alvin Parker from Virginia Union University are newly elected members of the Board this year. AFCA Executive Director Craig Bohl serves as secretary-treasurer of the organization.
McMartin completed his 20th season as head coach at Central College and has an overall record of 155-48. He has led the Dutch to six conference titles and six NCAA playoff appearances. Under McMartin, the Dutch have had four undefeated regular seasons, with a 28-game regular season win streak from 2006 to 2008. He is a five-time conference coach of the year and was named an AFCA Division III Regional Coach of the Year in 2007 and 2021. McMartin earned AFCA Division III National Coach of the Year in 2021 after leading Central to a 12-1 record and a trip to the quarterfinals of the Division III playoffs. The Dutch have never suffered a losing season with McMartin as head coach.
McMartin began his coaching career at Oskaloosa High School as an assistant coach while still working on his bachelor’s degree at Central. He became a student assistant coach for the Dutch in 1988, then worked as a graduate assistant coach at Wake Forest from 1990-91. McMartin went to Illinois Wesleyan from 1992-93 as a defensive line coach, then moved to Rochester as defensive line coach for one season before becoming the offensive line coach and special teams coordinator at Beloit in 1995. After five seasons with the Buccaneers, where he also served as the head track and field coach, McMartin went to DePauw from 2000-03 as offensive coordinator and offensive line coach. He returned to his alma mater in 2004 as head coach. McMartin played football at Central for three years and graduated with his bachelor’s in physical education in 1990.
McMartin was named to the AFCA Board of Trustees in 2015 and serves as the chairman of the AFCA D3 Football Council and is a member of the Assistant Coach of the Year Committee. He is only the ninth Division III head coach in AFCA history to serve as president, and the second from Central College. McMartin’s head coach, Ron Schipper, served as president of the association in 1994.
