William & Mary appears in the AFCA Top 25 after upset

William & Mary used 303 rushing yards and a stout defense to hand FBS-member Charlotte a 41-24 loss. The Tribe defense held Charlotte to just seven points in the second half, going scoreless in the fourth quarter. The win propelled William & Mary to No. 22 in this week’s AFCA FCS Coaches’ Top 25 Poll.
North Dakota State still sits No. 1 with 26 first-place votes, followed by Montana at No. 2 and South Dakota State at No. 3, both of whom received one first-place vote. Montana State and Villanova round out the Top 5.
Delaware had the biggest jump this week. The Blue Hens handed Navy a 14-7 loss, allowing them to jump six spots to No. 13. Not to be outdone, UIW moved five places to No. 9 after the Cardinals upset then-No. 9 Southern Illinois, 64-29. UIW went up 22-0 in the first quarter and never looked back. The Cardinals don’t get to take it easy in the second week as they travel to Nevada while Delaware plays host to in-state rival Delaware State.
