John Carroll Stuns in Final Regular Season Poll

In the final regular season game, the John Carroll (Ohio) Blue Streaks pulled off a massive upset against then-No. 1 Mount Union (Ohio), handing the Purple Raiders their first regular-season loss since 2005 and taking the Ohio Athletic Conference away from the perennial champions for the first time since 1994. The game went back-and-forth between the two teams until Anthony Moeglin found William Woods on a 24-yard pass for a touchdown with 39 seconds left in the game, putting John Carroll ahead for good. The win gives head coach Tom Arth’s Blue Streaks the automatic bid for the NCAA Division III Playoffs, where they’ll host Olivet (Mich.) in the first round.

With such an upset, the first place votes have been split between Wisconsin-Whitewater, who received 24, Mary Hardin-Baylor (Texas), who received 12, and St. Thomas (Minn.), who received six. All three will be hosting games in the first round of the playoffs on November 19 against Lakeland (Wis.), Redlands (Calif.), and Northwestern-St. Paul (Minn.) respectively.

This weekend will feature many great matchups as everyone will be looking to advance in the 32-team bracket.
