Colorado State-Pueblo Ends 2014 No. 1 in Division II Poll

Colorado State-Pueblo has been ranked No. 1 in the AFCA Division II Coaches’ Top 25 Poll six times in the program’s short history, but the seventh time means the most. The ThunderWolves shutout No. 2 Minnesota State-Mankato, 13-0, in the NCAA Division II national championship game to earn the school’s first national title in any sport. This was the first shutout in the national title game since 1997 when Northern Colorado beat New Haven (Conn.), 51-0. Colorado State-Pueblo finishes the season ranked No. 1 with a school-record 14 wins in 2014.

Rounding out the rest of the Top 5 are No. 3 Minnesota-Duluth, who lost to conference rival Minnesota State-Mankato in the quarterfinals, No. 4 Ohio Dominican, who also made an appearance in the quarterfinals, and No. 5 Concord (W.Va.), who won the Mountain East Conference title for the first time, earned a school-record 13 wins and advanced to the semifinals for the first time in program history. No. 6 West Georgia made the biggest jump in the final poll, rising 19 spots from the final regular season poll after making a run to the semifinals. Twenty-one of the Top 25 teams participated in the Division II playoffs.
