Minnesota State-Mankato Ends Regular Season at No. 1
For the second year in a row, Minnesota State-Mankato ends the regular season at No. 1 in the AFCA Division II Coaches’ Top 25 Poll. The Mavericks are 11-0 and have a first-round bye in the NCAA Division II playoffs. No. 2 Minnesota-Duluth also finished the regular season at 11-0 and hosts No. 6 Northwest Missouri State in the first round. No. 3 Lenoir-Rhyne (N.C.) and No. 4 Ferris State (Mich.) are also undefeated entering the post-season, with each having first-round byes. Pittsburg State (Kan.) rounds out the Top 5, and will host No. 13 Harding (Ark.) in the first round.
Twenty-one of the Top 25 teams in the final regular season poll earned a spot in the Division II playoffs. No. 7 Ouachita Baptist (Ark.), No. 8 Colorado State-Pueblo, No. 10 Concord (W.Va.), No. 11 Delta State (Miss.) and No. 14 Bloomsburg (Pa.) were the other five teams that received first-round byes.
Shepherd (W.Va.), Indianapolis (Ind.) and Texas A&M-Commerce all fell out of the rankings this week, making room for newcomers Angelo State (Texas) and Virginia State, who are both ranked at No. 23. The Rams haven’t been ranked since October 5, 2009, while Virginia State makes its first appearance since the final regular season poll of 2013. West Georgia rounds out the Top 25.
