Lenoir-Rhyne Rises to No. 3 in AFCA Division II Poll
Thanks to North Alabama’s loss to Delta State (Miss.), Lenoir-Rhyne (N.C.) rose to No. 3 in the AFCA Division II Coaches’ Top 25 Poll this week. The Bears beat then-No. 16 Carson-Newman (Tenn.), 35-32, moving its record to 9-0 and taking control of the South Atlantic Conference title race. Minnesota State-Mankato still sits No. 1 with 28 first-place votes, followed by conference rival Minnesota-Duluth at No. 2. Ferris State (Mich.) and Bloomsburg (Pa.) round out the Top 5.
With North Alabama’s loss, there are only seven undefeated teams left in Division II with two weeks left to go in the 2014 regular season. The Top 5 teams in the poll are all undefeated, along with No. 9 Ouachita Baptist (Ark.) and No. 13 Concord (W.Va.).
Delta State made the biggest jump in the poll, moving up seven spots to No. 12, while North Alabama had the biggest fall, going down 12 places to No. 15. Only one team dropped out of the rankings this week, allowing Indianapolis (Ind.) to re-enter the poll at No. 25 after a seven-week layoff. There is only one Top 25 matchup this week as No. 20 Michigan Tech plays host to No. 22 Ashland (Ohio).
